Yarra Valley will host its marquee meeting this Sunday afternoon, where the $125,000 Yarra Valley Cup headlines the eight-race card. The track is expected to stay in the Good range throughout the day, with a perfect autumn day forecast for the region. The rail will be in the +3m position for the entire circuit, with the opening race on Yarra Valley Cup Day scheduled to jump at 1:20pm AEDT.
Yarra Valley Cup Tip: Logan Street Lion
Although Logan Street Lion will step up in grade in the feature event, he will compete against a much weaker field when compared to his last start at Randwick on March 2. Previously, the Chris Waller-trained gelding finished fourth, beaten by half a length by Floating in Benchmark 88 grade over 2000m. This son of Tavistock didn’t get a lot of room down the home straight but was still strong to and through the line as he went down by a small margin. Jye McNeil will be legged aboard for his first sit on the galloper, and if he can slot into a stalking role just behind the leaders from barrier 12, Logan Street Lion will take a power of beating.

Best Bet at Yarra Valley: Celebration
Celebration beat all bar the winner last start when first-up from a 26-week spell at Moe over 1000m on February 25. The Lloyd Kennewell & Lucy Yeomans-trained filly settled on the rail behind the speed before pushing up along the fence on the home turn to take over, and she looked the winner with 200m to go. However, A Hidden Treasure proved to be a little too strong late and beat her by half a length on the line, with third finishing a further 5.5 lengths behind the top two. This daughter of Snitzel will need a little bit of luck from barrier nine, but if Celebration is within three lengths of the leaders on the home turn, she should break her maiden at the third time of asking.

Next Best at Yarra Valley: John Joseph
John Joseph was the best of the beaten brigade in a strong form race at Moonee Valley last start, where the Alex Rae-trained galloper ran on nicely from behind the speed to finish 1.5 lengths off Lumber Punk over 1200m. After recording a narrow win at Hanging Rock first-up, this son of Love Conquers All will head to Yarra Valley third-up at peak fitness. From barrier six, Luke Cartwright should be able to settle midfield, off the fence, and allow his mount to build momentum on the home turn. With the aid of Cartwright’s 2kg claim, John Joseph will get in very well at the weights, which in turn should see him play a prominent role in the finish.
