Racing heads to Wyong on Thursday afternoon with a competitive eight-race program set for decision. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit, and the Good 4 conditions should be ideal for racing, with only minor showers forecast leading into the meeting. The first race is scheduled to get underway at 1:05pm AEST.
Best Bet: Oakfield Prince
Oakfield Prince is yet to pick up a win this preparation but does bring the right form-lines into a race like this. He was less than a length behind Blackcomb in his latest effort at Wyong on September 1, just swallowed up in the shadows of the post. Prior to that, he ran into the undefeated Pushy at Newcastle on August 19. Both of those horses have metropolitan quality surrounding them, and this six-year-old gelding was far from disgraced, finishing runner-up on both occasions. He should lead this field from barrier nine and will take some catching.

Next Best: Costa Smeralda
Costa Smeralda will be making her debut at Wyong this Thursday, and we love what we’ve seen at the barrier trials. She took a sit in behind the speed in her opening jump-out at Warwick Farm, ambling up to her opposition under a stranglehold for Jason Collett to finish mid-field. Her second trial was even more impressive, sitting outside the lead and bolting clear under very quiet riding. The three-year-old filly seems to be coming along nicely, and with a positive ride from barrier nine, we’re confident Costa Smeralda can win on debut.

Next Best Again: Hellbetta
It’s been four career starts without a win for Hellbetta, but he seems to be improving with every run for the Sam Kavanagh stable. Both of his starts this preparation have come at Kembla Grange over 1400m, and the son of Hellbent can be forgiven for missing out on victory in each. He was luckless first-up and travelled wide throughout, while his second-up run left him pinned to the rail with nowhere to go. Adam Hyeronimus takes the reins this time, and with a chance to sit in the one-one over the mile, Hellbetta looks well placed to find the winner’s enclosure.
