Wyong racecourse

Wyong Race Club is one of the prominent horse racing facilities in the central coast region of New South Wales.

Since opening operations in 1875, Wyong Race Club has always been considered a powerhouse of provincial racing across the nation, maintaining a professional setting for racegoers and functioning as a centre of activity for the Wyong community. This includes major functions and charity events throughout the year.

Wyong Racecourse hosts up to 22 meetings per year and continues to be operated regularly as a training hub for some of the leading horsemen and women in the industry. Kim Waugh, Damian Lane and Tracey Bartley all hail from the central coast, and up to 25 more experienced trainers have elected to set up out of this long-standing operating racecourse.

Wyong Race Club has its feature race-days late in the year between August and September, as they get some metropolitan gallopers engaged for the $200,000 Wyong Gold Cup.

Wyong Race Club is located at 71-73 Howarth St, Wyong NSW 2259 and is approximately 1 hour north of Sydney via the M1.

If you live in the vicinity of the race track the obvious recommendation is to get yourself there via car; however, if that isn’t a viable option, you can always elect to get a Taxi or Uber to the main entrance located just five minutes away from Wyong Train Station.

If you’re making your way to Wyong Racecourse from the city of Sydney, it leaves you with plenty of options as well. You could always take the M1 via car or regularly scheduled buses from Sydney Central Station, taking approximately one hour for the 94.1km journey. Or if you’d prefer, you can take the train directly from Central Station to Wyong Train Station before making the breezy five-minute walk to the Wyong Race Club.
The same can be said of travellers from Newcastle and neighbouring cities in New South Wales.

Wyong Racetrack dimensions & details

Wyong Racecourse is considered a short course with a circumference of 1791m and gallopers needing to travel 275m down the straight to secure victory.

Major races held at Wyong

Being a provincial racecourse, means Wyong does not hold any group Group 1 races; however, that doesn’t mean it hasn’t seen it’s share of quality gallopers grace the turf.

Since 1999 the $200,000 Listed Wyong Gold Cup has seen engagement from city trainers and owners seeking the impressive prize packet on offer. Chris Waller, Kris Lees, Gai Waterhouse and Joseph Pride are just some of the names to be etched on the trophy. Last year’s winner Durston (2022) even going on to Group 1 glory securing victory in the Caulfield Cup.

Not to mention the inclusion of Wyong in the Provincial-Midway qualifiers allowing the locals to get involved for major prizemoney and even see their horse racing at metropolitan class.
