Wodonga betting preview – February 08, 2021
Wodonga will host an eight race card on Monday afternoon as another week of racing gets underway in Victoria. The track has come up a Good 4 for the track’s first meeting since December 10, and with the rail in the true position the entire circuit there should be no excuses for fancied runners.
The first of eight at Wodonga is set to jump at 1:30pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Palace Whisper #9
It is not very often that Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra sends a galloper with a bit of talent to Wodonga on a Monday, but they are doing so with Palace Whisper who looks hard to beat in the opener on Monday. Having run to within a nose two starts back to I’m Thunderstruck who went around as favourite in the Autumn Stakes on Saturday, it looks the right form heading into this Wodonga maiden. The filly then came out at Geelong on January 24 but settled no better than three wide without cover up on speed and was left chasing early on in the piece. If you put a line through that last start effort and go on the run at Caulfield two starts ago she looks hard to beat.
Next Best: Optimizzer #2
Nick Ryan enlists the services of Blaike Macdougall for the ride on Optimizzer in the second leg of the Wodonga quaddie. The gelding deadset bolted in at his last start at Moe when kicking clear over the last 150m to score by three and a half lengths on the line. The field he meets here at Wodonga is no harder than what he faced at Moe and should handle the 2kg rise in weight. He should settle towards the rear of the field and look for him to be charging down the outside late to salute as one of our better bets on the Wodonga card.
Best Value: King Of The Bounty #6
The John & Chris Ledger trained King Of The Bounty drops back from a Moonee Valley maiden to a country maiden and looks well placed to run a big race at a price. Apprentice Liam Riordan hopes on board for the first time and will look to settle his mount towards the rear of the field. WIth a genuine tempo expected over the 1590m he should get the race run to his liking, especially if he can replicate his run at Wangaratta where he finished third and was looking for a rise in distance which he gets today at a country level.
