One time Melbourne Cup favourite White Marlin has been ruled out of the Spring Carnival having sustained a long-term injury.
The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained stayer burst on to the scene during the spring of 2022 when winning on Melbourne Cup Day and signalling his intent for the same day 12 months later.
While there is no confirmation as yet from the stable, it is understood the imported six-year-old has injured both front tendons, which will require at least 12 months on the sidelines.
A Group 3 winner earlier in the year when claiming the Group 3 Easter Cup (2100m) at Sandown, White Marlin was expected to begin his spring campaign at Caulfield on September 2.
White Marlin has not been seen at the races since finishing second in the Listed Andrew Ramsden (2800m) when chasing home Lunar Flare at Flemington.
