Greyhound racing’s exciting community series – the TAB Great Chase – will take on a different look in 2020.
Sadly, crowds are currently not allowed at Victoria’s greyhound racetracks due to COVID-19 restrictions, meaning the Great Chase’s popular community days, which occur at our clubs each year, will not happen in 2020.
However, we are encouraging many of our beloved community groups to get involved with the 2020 TAB Great Chase Grand Final from afar on Wednesday 21 October for the chance to share in $24,000 in prize money.
More than 30 groups which care for the intellectually or physically disabled attended the TAB Great Chase Grand Final in 2019, with those groups to automatically go into the running to draw a greyhound in this year’s Grand Final. The eight groups drawn will win a minimum $2,000, and the group matched to the winning greyhound will land $10,000.
Although we’ll miss the electric atmosphere generated by our passionate community groups at the track in 2020, we are working to implement an engaging online activity during the Great Chase Grand Final which will allow groups to tune into the action from The Meadows via laptops, tablets or mobile phones to find out if they have drawn a runner in the Grand Final, and to watch the race live as it unfolds. More details on that as we draw closer to the day.
Note: This year’s TAB Great Chase Grand Final will be held at the later time of around 5pm.
2020 TAB Great Chase Grand Final
When: Wednesday 21 October
Where: The Meadows (no crowds in attendance)
Race time: Around 5pm (TBC)
Be sure to keep an eye on the GRV website during October as we articulate some of the most memorable moments from previous TAB Great Chase events.
The TAB Great Chase has contributed more than $650,000 to Victoria’s disability sector since it first started in 2003, and we eagerly look forward to seeing our groups back at the racetrack again for the 2021 series.
