Racing WA has launched a trio of slot races, known as the Western Trilogy, that will encompass all three codes of the sport, to be held over one weekend in 2023.
The three races will be known as The Quokka (horse racing), The Nullarbor (harness racing) and the Sandgroper (greyhound racing) and have a combined purse of $5.5 million.
The first edition of the Western Trilogy will begin on Friday, April 14 with the $1 million Nullarbor over 2536m at Gloucester Park and the $500,000 Sandgroper at Cannington.
The Western Trilogy will then conclude with the $4 million The Quokka, on Saturday April 15, over 1200m with it to be raced under weight-for-age conditions.
Fourteen slots for the inaugural The Quokka will cost $200,000 and the prize-pool will be the biggest ever for a thoroughbred race in Western Australia.
The Quokka is named after Western Australia’s beloved quokka, which is regarded as the “world’s happiest animal” and is a popular tourist attraction.
