Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr have combined with Jamie Kah to take out the final race of The Championships as Wee Nessy (+380) took out the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes at Randwick.

Jumping from barrier three, Kah allowed the daughter of Snitzel to find a rhythm in behind the leaders and she received an economical run, as both Red Card (+340) and Ballroom Bella (+2000) started to ramp up the tempo before the home turn.

Just as Ballroom Bella took over from the leader, Kah took her mount to the inside and when she let her go through her gears, the four-year-old mare took over and started to edge clear with 150m to go.

The race was run to suit the backmarkers; however, only Miss Hellfire (+1700) and C’est Magique (+750) took significant ground off the winner to finish in third and fourth place, respectively.

Representing the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr stable, Ben Elam spoke about the win post-race.

“Wee Nessy put the writing on the wall at her first two starts this preparation and we kept her up here the whole time,” Elam said.

“She had the right formlines. Chain Of Lightning won a TJ.

“She came here in good form and she has really come on with three weeks between runs. Couldn’t have been more confident coming here, really.

“She has really furnished into a proper mare now. We’re not sure what the future holds in terms of breeding or racing on, but there are a few races in store for her.

“There are options. You’ve got a Sangster which will be quality field this year and you’ve got five weeks until the Doomben 10,000 and she absolutely thrives on wet tracks.

“There’s options for us to ponder but the Sangster looks idea – fillies and mares, 1200.”

Jamie Kah picked up her third winner of The Championships in the last race, and she spoke highly of the winner post-race.

“She is everyone’s dream to ride,” Kah said of Wee Nessy.

“She does whatever you want, and she’s talented.

“She won for me two years ago, I think, at Mornington, and she is always consistent.”
