Midweek metropolitan racing will head to Mornington Racing Club this Wednesday for a very competitive eight-race card. The track is currently rated a Soft 7, and with more rain on the forecast for Tuesday, we expect the track to stay in the Soft range all day. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit, with racing set to kick off at 12:25pm AEST.
Best Bet at Mornington: Lady Court
Lady Court tackled midweek metropolitan grade at Sandown last start when fourth-up and showed a love for the Heavy ground and 1800m, defeating her nearest rival by a massive four lengths. After her dominant win, Peter Moody and his team have given her a nice break before tackling 2000m for the first time, and she should get another wet track. There only looks to be one other possible leader outside of this daughter of American Pharoah, so Billy Egan should be able to cross the field from barrier nine and find the front early on. If Egan can get this girl to jump well and find the front without doing too much work, we expect Lady Court to record back-to-back victories.

Next Best at Mornington: Oxley Jack
The Colin Scott-trained Oxley Jack should be hard to beat in the closer after finishing second last start at Cranbourne over the same distance in the same grade on May 12. This six-year-old gelding beat all bar one last start, as he gave the eventual winner — Whipcracker Way — the inside running and went down in the final 100m of the race. This son of Kuroshio will come to Mornington third-up for the campaign, trying to maintain his impressive third-up record of two wins and one third from three starts. Much like last start, Van Roy will be the other speed influence, and after pulling away from that horse and beating him home by a length, we believe this guy will have his measure once again. Joe Bowditch retains the ride, and we expect a much better performance in a similar race to last time out.

Best Value at Mornington: The Guava
Patrick Payne has got his three-year-old gelding The Guava going well this time in, with the son of Akeed Mofeed running fifth — only 3.5 lengths off the smart Katsu — first-up before nearly pinching the prize last start when second-up at Sandown in a Benchmark 64 on May 10. Now third-up, we should see this guy at his very best when stepping up to 1200m for the first time this campaign. This race appears to have a lot of speed, while a few of his rivals are rising from Maiden or Class 1 races — inferior form compared to what our bloke has come through. Laura Lafferty has ridden The Guava at both of his starts this preparation and will stick once again on Wednesday, which fills us with more confidence that he should run well and hopefully be flashing home down the outside late.
