Best Bet at Eagle Farm – Prince Shalaa
Race one, horse one looks the right way to start. Prince Shalaa is unbeaten after just one career start back in February when a smart winner over stablemate Hang Five. The Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted-trained three-year-old raced handy to the speed that day under Boris Thornton, who keeps the ride on Wednesday. The son of Shalaa has had the benefit of a trial, where he coasted to a stylish victory over 1050m. From barrier two, Thornton will use the good gate to his advantage and race in the first pair in the small six-horse field, giving his mount every chance to win again.

Next Best at Eagle Farm – Secret Tales
The O’Dea & Hoysted team can start the 22/23 season off with a winning double on Wednesday if both Prince Shalaa and Secret Tales can salute. This four-year-old was terrific when third behind Bentley Magic and Count The Coin on July 23 at Doomben, hitting the line strongly in the middle of the track. The mare by Spill The Beans is now third-up for the preparation, so she should be nearing peak fitness and getting ready to win. She is already a winner at Eagle Farm in the past, and Samantha Collett built a really strong partnership with her earlier in the year with back-to-back wins. This is very winnable over 1845m.

Best Value at Eagle Farm – Flying Rothe
Rob Heathcote’s Flying Rothe won like a really smart horse on July 24 at the Sunshine Coast, leading all of the way to record a 4.3-length victory in the 1600m 3YO Maiden. The now four-year-old gelding has to back it up in Class 1 company at a metropolitan meeting, but there is nothing to suggest he can’t. From barrier four, Ben Thompson will take the son of Rothesay straight to the front, look to control things and get away with it again. While he did fail at this track two starts ago when a $41 chance with online bookmakers, that was in a tough maiden, he got a long way out of his ground and he ran on OK without threatening, so we hope to see him go forward like he did last start and give them something to catch.
