The Brisbane Racing Club will host a very competitive 10-race card at Eagle Farm this Wednesday afternoon. With no rain forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, we expect the track to improve from the current Soft 5 to a Good rating by the time racing gets underway. After racing at this venue on Saturday, the rail will be moved from the +5m position to the +10.5m position for the entire circuit, which will more than likely favour on-speed runners in the short distance races. The action will kick off at 11:27am AEST.
Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Aureus Angel
The Chris Munce-trained Aureus Angel will be looking to bring up her third victory from four starts this preparation. This five-year-old mare won first-up over 1200m at Ipswich on March 10, before going down by the barest of margins at the same track and trip when losing to Sabre Princess as the race favourite second-up. Due to that loss, this daughter of Turffontein was sent out a $14 chance with online bookmakers last start; however, if you stuck with her, you were handsomely rewarded as she ran away from her rivals and recorded an easy one-length victory over Kat Chinna at this track on April 15. Munce and his team have chosen to keep this mare at the Eagle Farm 1200m, and even though she is stepping up in class from a Saturday Class 3 to a midweek Class 5, it shouldn’t worry her. Damien Thornton rode this girl to victory last start and has chosen to stick with her on Wednesday, which fills us with even more confidence.

Next Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Kronenbourg
The Tony Gollan-trained Kronenbourg finished second to stablemate Standing Order at Ipswich over 1350m on April 5 last start. According to the form guide, this four-year-old gelding has had two starts this preparation, but when first-up he lost the rider not long after the jump. This son of Vadamos has only won one race, a Maiden Plate at Doomben on September 14 four starts back, but after finishing second last start, he looks ready to break through again this Wednesday. There is no doubt that this gelding has had an eventful campaign this time in, as he was scratched at the gates at Ipswich on April 19, but he should be ready to show his best at his next start. Ben Thompson has chosen to ride him for the fourth time, continuing his strong relationship with the horse.

Best Value at Eagle Farm: Dark Tangent
The fifth race of the day is a Maiden Plate over 1800m where we will be siding with Dark Tangent, who has finished in the first four at his last three starts. This son of Defcon was made to do it tough last time out, running three wide for the entire trip over 1400m at Eagle Farm; however, he proved very tough and was only beaten by Kubwa in the final stride. This four-year-old gelding will be stepping up from 1400m to 1800m, but when you consider that he probably ran 1500m when racing wide last start, the step up in trip should suit him perfectly. Jaden Lloyd will take the reins for this start, and with the aid of his 1.5kg claim, Dark Tangent will only have to carry 56kg and should go very close to breaking his maiden in a race that features a few non-winners.
