The Brisbane Racing Club will host a competitive nine-part card at Doomben this Wednesday afternoon. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with no rain on the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, we expect to get into the Good range by the time the meeting starts. The rail has been pushed out to the +9m position for the entire circuit, which should play favourably to leaders over the shorter distance races. The first race out of Doomben will kick off at 11:58am AEST.
Best Bet at Doomben: Von Bee
After getting the maiden out of the way in dominant fashion on June 7, we will be backing in the Bevan Laming-trained Von Bee to return to the scene of the crime and bring up back-to-back victories. Tegan Harrison will retain the ride on this son of Contributer at his third career start, and from the nice middle barrier (7) we should see the jockey adopt similar tactics to last start and push forward to control the race from the front. If Von Bee finds the front without doing too much work, he should prove hard to run down.

Next Best at Doomben: Drive A Deel
The Robert Heathcote-trained Drive A Deel looks a good play as she drops back from Saturday grade to midweek company. The four-year-old mare is undefeated over the mile at Doomben and has four wins and a runner-up finish from five starts at the track. Last start this daughter of Dundeel took on Listed grade for the first time in her career, finishing ninth in the Spear Chief Handicap – beaten 5.3 lengths by Muhnamek – on June 3. Damien Thornton will have his first ride on Drive A Deel on Wednesday, and if this girl can find the front of the field from barrier five and give a good kick on the home turn, she should go very close to keeping her unbeaten record at the track and distance intact.

Best Value at Doomben: Black Minto
We have been in Black Minto’s corner a couple of times throughout her career, and now the Les Kelly-trained filly strikes a very winnable maiden at her eighth start. Last time out this two-year-old filly tackled The Phoenix 2YO Listed race at Eagle Farm, where she was comprehensively beaten. However, we are going to put a line through that run and go back two starts, where she was beaten narrowly at Ipswich. This daughter of Spill The Beans didn’t get a whole lot of room around the turn, and in the straight she got off the leaders’ heels to flash home, only going down by a nose on the line over 1200m. Martin Harley will have his first sit on Black Minto, and if he can have her settled just behind the leaders and peel off their heels with 300m to go, she should play a prominent role in the finish.
