Warwick Farm Best Bet – Trifaccia
Well, we aren’t sure how many more chances we can give this filly, but surely this is the day. Trifaccia, a three-year-old I Am Invincible filly, has had six starts for three minor placings, one of which was at Group 2 level. The James Cummings-trained filly resumed at Canterbury on December 17 and got a long way out of her ground, before working home strongly to run fifth over 1100m. this filly definitely has her quirks, but we are hoping that James McDonald can get her to relax, and hopefully settle a little closer from barrier two. She is Group placed over 1200m, so she should relish getting out to this trip now that she is second up and be very hard to beat provided she does everything right in the run. The short odds are a touch scary, but she should be good enough.
Next Best Bet – Concocted
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott saddle up Concocted in the penultimate race over 1200m. the three-year-old colt won well on debut back in July, before he was beaten by the talented Silent Impact at Rosehill Gardens in his second career start. He then finished eighth when a $6 chance in the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes at Kembla Grange, finishing less than three lengths behind the likes of Tiger Of Malay and Coastwatch. The son of Written Tycoon has had three trials across November and December, so he should be ready to go first-up over the six furlongs, and we expect him to be very sharp with the blinkers added for the first time. James McDonald will have the ride aboard this colt for the first time which is a big plus, while barrier two will give the pair plenty of options. We expect him to resume as a winner.
Best Value At Warwick Farm – Supremo
In the opening leg of the quaddie, John Thompson and apprentice Chris Williams combine with Supremo in a 3&4YO Benchmark 64. The son of Written Tycoon won his maiden at his only start at Warwick Farm back in April over 1300m by three lengths, defeating Sur La Mer who is the favourite in the last race of the day. In this campaign, the four-year-old ran fifth at Randwick on the Kensington track behind Socialist, before going to Royal Randwick to run eighth behind Toomuchtobear, who has since come out and been narrowly defeated in metropolitan company again. The gelding rises from 55.5kg to 59.5kg due to the drop in grade, but Williams’ 2kg claim sees him in with just 57.5kg which is very advantageous. Drawn well in gate five, he can lead and run this field into the ground over the mile.
