HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for Wednesday’s metropolitan meeting at Warwick Farm, which is set to begin at 1:45pm AEDT. Plenty of rain has fallen all along the New South Wales coast over the past few days, so the track is rated a Heavy 10, while the rail is in the true position for the entire course.
Best Bet at Warwick Farm – Roots
It is a decent race to finish the day, and Chris Waller has a very smart filly on his hands in Roots. The three-year-old was dominant at this track on February 9 over 1200m in her first-up run, coming from a long way back to win by over a length. The daughter of Press Statement held a nomination for the Surround Stakes on Saturday, but Waller didn’t accept in preference for this much easier event. Roots brings form around Fangirl and Decent Raine from the spring, which looks very good for this race, while the rise to 1400m is going to suit her down to the ground. James McDonald will do the steering, so nothing is lost there, while barrier eight allows them to take up a midfield spot and finish over the top of their rivals. Roots does hold nominations for the Vinery Stud Stakes and the ATC Oaks, and she will be in both of those races up to her ears, so this looks the perfect steppingstone.
Next Best at Warwick Farm – Money From The Sky
Mark Newnham and Tom Sherry combine in the second with Money From The Sky in a 1600m Maiden Handicap. The three-year-old son of Frankel flashed home on debut to split Aeecee Express and Fire, with the latter winning dominantly at Sandown last Wednesday. At his second start, Money From The Sky started favourite against Profondo, albeit not threatening. In his first-up run, the colt got a long way back on the Kensington track, but he charged home to run third behind Stray over 1400m. The rise to 1600m will be well received by this galloper, while barrier eight should see him settle midfield with some cover before proving a touch too good for this field.
Best Value at Warwick Farm – Richon
Despite being beaten 1.25 lengths on debut in a 900m 2YO Maiden at Newcastle, Richon comes into this 1100m 2YO Maiden with the best form out of any of his rivals. Richon finished second on that occasion behind Promitto, with that galloper going on to win the Group 2 Skyline Stakes at Royal Randwick last Saturday. Peter Robl has every right to aim up at a metropolitan race with this son of Danerich, and he looks to have found a good fit. The extra 200m will suit Richon, while barrier four might allow Rory Hutchings to settle a pair or two closer than he did on debut. The debut run was on a Soft 6 and he worked home well in that, so he should handle the heavy going.
