An eight-part card is scheduled for Warrnambool on Thursday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing expert presents his best bets and free quaddie selections for the day. The track is rated a Good 3, the rail is set in the true position throughout, and racing is scheduled to get underway at 1:10pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Warrnambool – Apsara
Matt Cumani and Dean Yendall are set to combine with maiden galloper Apsara as she looks to go one better than her second-place finish at Bendigo on October 3. The Sepoy mare settled on the leaders back on that day and, despite having every chance in the running, found one better on the line to go down by the narrowest of margins. With three minor placings from four career starts, she is clearly overdue a win, and if Dean Yendall is afforded a bit of luck from barrier nine, Apsara looks the one to beat. We expect to see Yendall settle her up on speed outside of the leader, and with an impressive return under her belt, the four-year-old will prove hard to hold out second-up from a spell.
Next Best at Warrnambool – O’reilly Mcluke
We’ll be hoping Dean Yendall can ride a double on Thursday, especially when he pairs up with Symon Wilde in the second leg of the quaddie with O’reilly Mcluke. The track specialist remains at the Warrnambool 1300m, where he ran second to Wanalirri on October 14. The five-year-old son of Coats Choice endured a tough run on that day when travelling three wide without cover close to the speed and still only managed to go down by one length on the line. He has two wins and a minor placing from four starts at the track, and if Yendall is lucky enough to not get trapped wide from barrier 13, we expect O’reilly Mcluke will be up on speed and too good for this BM64 field.
Next Best Again at Warrnambool – Tydeus
If the Lindsey Smith-trained Tydeus can bring the form that saw him be competitive in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes last year, he should take some beating. He returns to Warrnambool for the first time since his debut victory, and although he has to lug 62.5kg following Tianni Chapman’s 3kg claim, we think he can handle it. His issue last campaign was his barrier manners, which caused him to be slowly away. Smith will hopefully have had this rectified, and if it is, then we may just see the very best of Tydeus on Thursday.
