Horse racing in Victoria heads to Wangaratta on Tuesday afternoon, where a competitive eight-race meeting is set down for decision. Clear skies are forecast for raceday with the track already rated a Good 4, and with the rail in its true position, perfect conditions are set to greet competitors. Porter became a bit of a perennial bridesmaid at the end of last campaign, but first-up from a four-month spell has found an “easy kill” to return in. Damian Lane hops back on board for the third time in the son of So You Think’s career, and from barrier three, draws to gain every favour in running on the heels of the leaders. With even luck on the home turn, Porter should have no issue in disposing of his rivals and bringing up a second win at start 11.

Captain Hilfiger was arguably doing his best work late over 1800m at Flemington on September 22, which suggests the step up to 2000m should suit him perfectly. The three-year-old gelding finished three lengths off the winner, so a step back to country racing should see the son of Proisir break maiden ranks at the fifth time of asking. Ben Allen sticks on board, and with a genuinely run affair, Captain Hilfiger will prove too hard to hold out.

Best Value at Wangaratta: Tribal Lands
Tribal Lands produced a career-best performance at Wodonga on September 17 when hitting the line strongly from the rear of the field. The maiden he lines up in here looks no harder than what he was up against last time and should feature in the finish. Patrick Moloney will have the son of Star Witness at the rear of the field once more, but with plenty of speed in the race, Tribal Lands represents great value with horse racing bookmakers as the race shapes perfectly for him.
