Brad Widdup knew a win was only around the corner after Vulpine’s last start heading into the $140,000 Ortensia Stakes (1100m) at Scone, which she won on the outside and on the line.
The five-year-old mare finished almost two lengths behind Ciaron Maher and David Eustace’s star sprinter Snapdancer in the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares (1300m) at Gold Coast Turf Club on January 15.
Widdup was super impressed with that performance, thinking it would hold her in good stead for Saturday’s feature.

He was on the money about the underrated mare who continues to step up, now with seven wins and over $610,000 in prizemoney from 29 starts.
“She was excellent and I’m rapt to get a win for BK Racing & Breeding,” Widdup told Sky Racing about the $12 winning chance, with Jay Ford aboard.
“She did a great job when she ran in Queensland last.
“She’s slowly maturing and it was great to see her win.”
Stablemate and five-year-old gelding Surreal Step couldn’t get out from the pack, finishing sixth.
“He was very unlucky – he ran terrific,” Widdup said.
Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou’s Mr Mosaic never gave up, finishing second.
