Victoria’s greyhound racing community has raised a collective total of $70,965 for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal in 2023.
Greyhounds raced at Healesville, Traralgon and the 2023 Sportsbet Ballarat Cup meeting today, with all three clubs having a huge focus on raising funds for the Good Friday Appeal and providing family-friendly entertainment for racegoers.
GRV kicked off its 2023 Good Friday Appeal fundraising efforts by raising $32,903 on 3AW’s Neil’s Cruise for the Kids last month.
Wagering partner Sportsbet contributed upwards of $30,000 towards GRV’s total by donating $500 each time the blue number four dog won a race at our racing venues across the day.
GRV ambassadors Ryan Papenhuyzen and Brent Harvey also played their roles in promoting the fundraising push this week, meeting up with Darragh Hyde, seven-year-old son of greyhound trainer Tony Hyde, who has Cystic Fibrosis and makes regular visits to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
GRV Chair Peita Duncan praised the greyhound racing community for rallying to the cause once again.
“Fundraising for the Good Friday Appeal is in our DNA and I am extremely proud and humbled by how our stakeholders always find a way to support the Royal Children’s Hospital so generously.
“As a sport, we feel deeply connected to the Good Friday Appeal and will continue to support it so that the kids can receive the very best, cutting edge medical attention they need at one of the world leading hospitals based right here in Melbourne”.
A GRV-led Good Friday Appeal silent auction for sought-after cricket items remains open until 5pm Saturday.
