Victorian trainer Matt Clark will be delighted star litter brothers Catch The Thief (pictured) and Playlist have made it through to next Saturday’s G1 Vic Peters Final (520m) after both ran third in their respective heats tonight.
Three heats of the series were conducted at Wentworth Park, with the first two placegetters and two fastest thirds qualifying for the $75,000 to-the-winner final.
The Gippsland duo were the only Vics to make the final, with Kelvyn Greenough’s recent Cranbourne Winter Cup winner Houdini Boy qualifying as a reserve after storming home for third place in the remaining heat after striking interference.
Greenough’s other excitement machine – Cranbourne’s 520m track record breaker It’s A Blaze – endured the first defeat of his career, missing a place in one of the heats.
Also this evening, a number of Victorians competed in four heats of the Group 1 Peter Mosman Opal (520m) for female greyhounds.
Junk Food Junkie loomed large in the opening heat and looked the winner in the home straight before running 2nd. Fortunately for trainer Jessica Sharp the first two placegetters made it through to next Saturday’s final, also worth $75,000 to the winner.
Another of Jessica’s greyhounds, Devel Sixteen ran 3rd in another heat, but her time wasn’t quick enough to qualify as a reserve.
