David Atkins’ unbeaten colt Promitto proved too strong at the end of the Group 2 Skyline Stakes at Royal Randwick, defeating Rise Of The Masses and Jemeldi in fine style.
The son of Divine Prophet romped in on debut at Newcastle over 900m, and that was enough for Atkins to have a throw at the stumps at Group 2 level.
Starting a $15 chance, Promitto was given a brilliant ride by Christian Reith, before letting down strongly in the concluding stages to set out after the leaders strongly.

“I won on this horse at Newcastle and from the moment then I knew he was a nice horse” Reith said.
“I worked him on Tuesday morning and I thought he’d be very hard to beat today.
“He just gives me the feel of a very nice horse, they’ve got to have a good head on their shoulders, good length about them – he has all those characteristics about him. I was very confident coming here today.”
Promitto doesn’t currently hold a nomination for the Golden Slipper, but with a golden ticket coming with the prizemoney from today’s win, it could be hard to resist.
“I definitely think he is a top class horse. Obviously this is his first prep and only his second start but everything he shows you, and the way he feels underneath you, you know he has top class written all over him,” Reith said.
The colt is not currently in Golden Slipper markets, with a decision still to be made if the connections will pay up for a late nomination.
