Country racing heads to Tuncurry on Sunday afternoon for a competitive eight-race program kicking off at 12:55pm AEDT. We should have perfect conditions on race-day with no rain expected across the region over the weekend, so we’ll be doing the form for a Good 4 track. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit.
Best Bet: Press Lightly
We’ll be looking to find our best bet saluting in the opener at Tuncurry on Sunday afternoon as Press Lightly looks a filly on the rise. Despite being a maiden still after two career runs, she looks due to break through and finds a lovely race to do just that. There’s an argument to be made she should’ve won both those runs with luck, in particular her latest effort at Scone on January 27 when running second behind Xieby. She was forced to sit wide the entire trip and stuck to the task nicely with the winner sneaking up her to score by 0.2 lengths. Trainer Robert Agnew has placed this Press Statement filly beautifully and from barrier seven should find a much more suitable run in transit compared to what unfolded the other day. Ben Looker hops aboard as he did on her debut and should have her ready to strike turning for home to get a much-deserved win.

Next Best: Dancedes
Dancedes is another filly we’ve got plenty of time for and her debut win was sensational. She didn’t look like winning at Scone over the 900m first-up on January 27, but after finally getting clear with 200m to go, she powered over the top of her rivals to win by a short but dominant 0.2 length margin. She was impressive to the eye and the clock agreed as they ran 52.3 for the short and sharp trip. She now steps up into Class 1 company and the 1000m and that shouldn’t faze this daughter of Denman. She’ll be sitting somewhere mid-field under jockey Ashley Morgan who takes the reins again after the first-up win and from there it’ll be all about giving this filly clear running room turning for home. If she gets the breaks, the $3 on offer with online bookmakers will be value.

Best Value: Evocator
We’re more than happy to take the price on offer for Evocator in the penultimate race of the program at Tuncurry. He’s got some terrific Saturday Highway form in behind Trooper Knuckle at Rosehill on January 14 and we thought he was unlucky on that occasion. He was only beaten 2.3 lengths and the winner stole his run when the race went on turning for home, cutting up the inside while Evocator was busy checking off heels and never really got a crack. His tick-over trial win on February 5 at Port Macquarie was another eye-catching effort as well, sitting in behind the speed before rounding them up to win under no riding. Ashley Morgan takes the reins here and from barrier two can get a much more positive sit throughout this 1400m contest. He’s a great each-way shout, and some betting sites have him a lot shorter than $8.
