Tuesday’s scheduled meeting at Orange has been transferred to Bathurst, where we will see a competitive seven-race program from 1:35pm AEDT onwards. There’s plenty of progressive types that we are interested to see go around, particularly early in the card. The track is currently rated a Soft 7, but clearing skies in the Central Tablelands could bring us closer to a Soft 6 come raceday. The rail sits out 3.5m with the cutaway between the 500-300m markers. The track should play evenly throughout the day, so hopefully we can find a few winners.
Best Bet at Bathurst – Covalent
The Bjorn Baker-trained Covalent comes here after a 162-day spell which followed a lacklustre preparation with just the two starts to her name and one placing. While obviously things didn’t go to plan, she’s come back in outstanding order after some exciting trials, particularly her latest at Rosehill on October 4 when cantering home in impressive style to win it by 2.5 lengths. If she shows up here like her trial form, we can’t see her not figuring in the finish. Mitchell Bell jumps on this filly by I Am Invincible and from barrier one should be looking for the lead or to sit just on the back of the speed. They should be too good for this lot provided Covalent can handle the testing conditions.

Next Best at Bathurst – Johnny Dash
Be jump back to the first race on the card to find our next best in the form of Johnny Dash for the Annabel Neasham yard. Another one for us by I Am Invincible over the sharp sprinting trip for this 1100m contest, Johnny Dash looks to be another horse on the rise here looking for an easier task after running into some tough assignments up in Queensland. He’s improved since running on the Polytrack surfaces up north and has trialled very solidly here in NSW. Johnny Dash is first-up on Tuesday after two trials, suggesting this is a strong target for the stable. He ran better than the formbook declares to finish seventh at Warwick Farm on September 23, 7.6 lengths away from the trial winner. But he was hardly asked for an effort before being strong to the line again in another trial on October 7. Look for Andrew Adkins to be prominent from stall one and be hammering home late to score late.

Best Value at Orange – Elle Effess
We return to the Bjorn Baker stable for our value runner on Tuesday afternoon with four-year-old mare Elle Effess. She broke her maiden two starts back at Forbes on September 20 in professional fashion, before over-racing at Goulburn last time on October 4. She raced very ungenerously that afternoon and just didn’t give the best account of herself in what was a hot Class 1. On paper, this looks a much easier contest, and at her best she is more than capable of winning this BM58 affair. Winona Costin hops back aboard as well for a huge boost in confidence, considering she was the jockey to steer Elle Effess to victory in her only winning start. They’ll lead, they’ll kick, and they’ll look the winner for a long way out.
