Trix Of The Trade Wins Group 1 Railway Stakes

Trix Of The Trade reigned supreme in the Group 1 Railway Stakes.

Legendary trainer Colin Webster has previously told this publication Trix Of The Trade is so relaxed before a race, he falls asleep before it’s time to get ready.

It was this laidback mindset that helped him deliver Webster arguably the biggest win of his outstanding career.

The four-year-old’s victory in the $1.5 million Railway Stakes over 1600m was Webster’s first ever Group 1 triumph.

It has been a life mission for Webster. He is 82 years old.

“Unbelievable. It’s my first Group 1,” he told Sky Racing.

“I’m very proud. It’s very special.”

Ever the team man, the respected conditioner and gentleman of Western Australian racing was delighted for Trix Of The Trade’s owners.

“Bill and Pat Robison are here watching him today,” he said.

“They can’t come to the races much because of their ages, but they’re here.”

Webster’s judgment to give his star and in-form gelding three weeks between starts since his third in the Asian Beau Stakes was spot on.

As was Troy Turner’s nous to trail Comfort Me before making a late move and saluting by 1.75-lengths.

“We knew if we had him (Trix Of The Trade) fresh enough he could do it,” Webster said.

“Troy rode him to perfection – I’m very proud of him.”

Turner was almost lost for words and fighting back tears that he could finally deliver a Group 1 title for Webster, his old boss.

“I’m pretty emotional. Just trying to win one of those races has been pretty hard,” he said.

“So today I had the right horse, and the horse has trained a treat.

“There were 16 horses today, and all were in good form.”
