The $75,000 Townsville Guineas will headline the eight-race card at Cluden Park this Sunday afternoon, with racing set to kick off at 12:30pm AEST. The track was rated as a Soft 5 at the time of acceptances, but with no rain on the forecast, it is expected to improve into the Good range. The rail will be in its true position for the entire circuit.

Viennawaitsforyou finished off strongly over 1500m in the Capricorn Guineas at Rockhampton to run a close second behind Parade Ground. Much like most of her rivals in the Townsville Guineas, this daughter of Vancouver will rise to 1600m for the first time; however, going off her last start, she should appreciate the extra ground. From barrier nine, Justin Stanley can settle midfield off the fence and allow to Viennawaitsforyou to let down with a strong turn of foot.

Kobayastar proved way too good for her rivals over the Townsville 1300m in her most recent start, careering away with a 2.3-length victory. This daughter of Kobayashi has won two of her last three and appears to be getting better the deeper she gets into her first racing preparation. The rise to 1400m shouldn’t worry this two-year-old filly, and if Kobayastar can settle in the first four, she will prove very hard to beat.

Next Best at Townsville: Speed Legend
Roy Chillemi and Lacy Morrison will combine again with Speed Legend as he seeks his fourth win of the preparation. Last start, this son of Star Witness was made to work early from a middle barrier before settling outside the leader, but he let down with a strong finish to win easily over 1609m. Morrison will find it easier to settle close to the speed from barrier four, and without having to do the early work, Speed Legend can record another win here.
