Kerryn Tomlinson hopes Domination’s Call can take advantage of the head-start he has on his key rivals in an intriguing clash of trotters at Wyndham on Thursday.
The Brad Williamson trained four-year-old could fly under the radar when he takes on in form rivals like his stablemate Expensive Crumpet, as well as Peregrine and Wai Key Wee. Domination’s Call comes into race 5 after making a rare mistake in his last outing at Winton.
Usually a much more reliable type, the trotter may offer punters some eachway value with a mistake-free effort.
“It wasn’t like him to have a gallop at Winton, but I think he will be better on Thursday,” Tomlinson said.
“Brad has been working on him and we have been happy with his work this week.”
“It is a nice field but starting from 10m is a help.”
“He is not a real fast beginner but he is usually quick enough away that he should be able to settle handy.”
“If he can do that he should be an eachway chance.”
Tomlinson takes two more drives for Williamson on Thursday in Ezra The Scribe and Smokin Chedda.
Ezra The Scribe has trialled nicely ahead of his debut in race 4.
“He has gone quite good in his trials.”
“The draw is the worry with him (7), he does seem to be better following a helmet.”
“Rakamurph (4) looks hard to beat and he has drawn much better.”
“Hopefully we can be running on, I would say he’s a place chance.”
Smokin Chedda starts alongside her stablemate Lottie’s Luck in race 6.
Both Williamson-trained runners have drawn tricky alleys with Smokin Chedda in barrier 6 and Lottie’s Luck in barrier 12.
“Drawing 6 is a little bit niggly for Smokin Chedda, she might need some luck from that draw.”
“If she can get into a handy spot she would be a top four chance.”
Tomlinson also combines with comeback trotter Ambro Ameigo at Wyndham.
Trainer Kath O’Connor will line the 11-year-old up in race 3 for his first start in more than four years.
“He has been away for a long time but he has trialled up with horses that have won more races than him.”
“I think Kath is pretty happy with him so hopefully he can go a good race.”
“Minnie McGoogan and Our Pinocchio look the ones to beat but hopefully we can be a top 4 chance.”
Tomlinson reunites with Haley Robyn in race 2 on Thursday.
The Ross and Chris Wilson trained mare is likely to strip fitter for her first up run at Winton.
“She was disappointing first up, but I think with a few runs she can get back to her best form.”
“She went some nice races last time in and at her best she would be a good chance in that field.
“The draw should be a help, so hopefully she is an eachway chance.”
Haley Robyn will start from the ace draw of barrier 1 on Thursday.
