Galleons Ambassador again showed her troubles are well and truly behind her when running to an easy win at Addington on Friday night.
The trotter made it win number three of her latest campaign when sweeping past an intermediate field to score for trainer-driver John Morrison.
Galleons Ambassador raced through the summer without quite being able to reach the heights she has recently.
Morrison credits the trotter’s brilliant winter form to her putting a series of niggles in the rear-view.
“She is going really good now, it’s great,” the trainer-driver said.
“She had a bit of a virus that set her quite a bit and a lot of other wee things, too.”
“She had mud fever at one stage and some tie up issues, as well as a few seasonal problems.”
“It’s all behind her at the moment and she has been really good.”
Morrison doesn’t carry a whip when driving the mare and he doesn’t think it would make much difference if he did.
“She just needed the ringcraft and we have had to teach her to race because she hadn’t had that many starts.”
“She has been better off without it and I don’t think it would make her any better at all.”
Morrison plans to race Galleons Ambassador into the spring.
“I will race her through and see how she goes in the spring, she has had seasonal issues before so we will see how she gets on.”
Morrison also produced Harrison to run second at Addington on Friday night.
The pacer showed he is right on track for a tilt at next weekend’s Kurow Cup.
“He went really good, we did a blood test and he seems really good now.”
“He will have a go at the Kurow Cup now.”
In the open class ranks, Anything Goes got his new campaign off to a perfect start when taking out the National Handicap.
The All Stars swept past to score in a race that featured the surprising gallop of the favourite Aardiebytheseaside, who was leading before the home turn.
Mystic Max also returned in style in when taking out the feature trot for trainer Michael Purdon.
Both horses were driven by Natalie Rasmussen.
