With the largest Harness Pick6 pot up for grabs since lockdown noted tipster Craig “The Whale” Thompson has shared his thoughts on Monday’s $100,000 guaranteed terminating Pick 6 at Ashburton and says “it isn’t easy”.
Leg 1 : Race 6 at 3.02 : The Fiona Stuart Memorial Pace.
“This is the hardest of them,” says The Whale before opting for top pick No 3 Gliding Away. He’s also including No 13 Koenigsegg, No 5 Yossi and No 11 Somekindawonderful.
Leg 2 : Race 7 at 3.37 : The Lather Up Ashburton Flying Stakes
“You have to go narrow in some legs and this is one of them,” says the Whale, “I’m going for just the two faves (No 8) Self Assured and (No 6) Spankem.”
Leg 3 : Race 8 at 4.14pm : What The Hill Ashburton Flying Mile
“I’m picking that (No 2) One Apollo is over the odds here (opened at $16) and he could really add some value.”
Others to include are No 1 Temporale, No 4 Heavyweight Hero, No 5 Habibi Inta and No 6 Majestic Man.
“You need them all,” says The Whale.
Leg 4 : Race 9 at 4.47pm : Fasttrack Insurance Handicap Pace
“You can narrow this to three I think with the two All Stars runners (No4) Beyond Words and (No 15) Shan Noble, and the Mitchell Kerr-trainer William Wallace (No 12).
Leg 5 : Race 10 at 5.22pm : Mid Canterbury Trotting Owners Mile
“Wild Excuse (No 8) will start the favourite on what she did at Methven and you can’t leave out (No7) A Delightful Act, (No4) Spellbound who’ll be suited by the big track, (No 9) Dizzy Miss Lizzy who’s just had her best trial yet and (No5) Enchantee if she starts.”
Leg 6 : Race 11 at 5.56pm : Ashburton Guardian Mobile Pace
“We can narrow the last to three,” says The Whale.
He has No 3 Fire Fox as a must include along with No 14 Croesus – “he trialled well at Wyndham behind Spirit of St Louis coming home in 55.4” – and No 16 Allabout Time.
Whale’s Early Mail Pick 6 : 3,5,11,13 / 6,8/ 1,2,4,5,6 / 4,12,15/ 4,5,7,8,9/ 3,14,16
