The Stir Up – Melbourne Cup Heats Edition

GRV’s Peter Quilty, Gerard Guthrie and Trent Langskaill provide their thoughts on some of the star greyhounds racing in Victoria.

Keep an eye on these, they are worth saving in your WatchDog Blackbook!

Quilts  Fellas, the best night of greyhound racing for the year is upon us. Eight outstanding heats of the Group 1 Sportsbet Melbourne Cup (Races 5 to 12) and there’s quality everywhere.

Gerard  French Martini has been luckless in her two Victorian runs, but she can atone in the first heat despite the appearances of fellow Group winners Zippy Tesla and Idolize.

Trent  Million Dollar Chase winner McInerney headlines the second heat. Is Baby Jaycee – victorious in 10 of her last 12 races – the best chance to upstage him?

Quilts  What about the stars in the third heat? Group 1 Sportsbet Topgun winner Photo Man is up against Zipping Maserati, El Dorado, Kelsey Bale and Shipwreck.

Gerard  The New South Wales star She’s A Pearl has Box 5 in the fourth heat and she is facing classy rivals including Kysaiah (in a favourable Box 1) and Plaintiff.

Trent  Wow She’s Fast is a champion, but Box 7 in the fifth heat is a concern. Paddy Wants Pats – the Australian Cup runner-up – is a huge danger coming out of Box 2.

Quilts  The sixth heat is simply sensational. Gatlin and Typhoon Sammy are Group winners, and then you have Group placegetters Titan Blazer, Salad Dodger and Amron Boy. What a field!

Gerard  Perth Cup champion Vice Grip has not fared well with Box 5 in Box 7. Group winner Devine Empress (won 15 from 22) and dual Group finalist Dynamic Prince are big chances.

Quilts  Dundee Smokey almost held off Paddy Wants Pats last Saturday night. If he wins the eighth heat, he will have beaten Group performers Fernando Mick, Quinlan Bale and Zipping Kyrgios.

Trent  Don’t forget the four heats of the Group 1 Sportsbet Bold Trease featuring Group 1 winners Untapped, Aston Velvet, Moraine Suzie and Mepunga Ruby.
