The Everest market will become a lot clearer when the running of The Shorts (1100m) takes place at Randwick this Saturday afternoon.
There are chances all over the page with 12 runners engaged for the Group 2 event – including Mazu, who has already secured his place in The Everest on October 14, making his return from a 124-day spell as a +1200 chance.
Online bookmakers want to trust the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) as the best betting guide for Saturday, as the James Cummings-trained mare In Secret has opened as a clear +220 favourite with top bookmakers after running second behind Remarque (+650), who has also seen plenty of early support.
Buenos Noches is a +550 hope after a magnificent win in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m), while Overpass holds the second line of betting at +450 as he returns after winning the inaugural edition of The Quokka (1200m) on April 15.
The winner of the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m), Ruthless Dame (+1500), makes her return as a four-year-old, as does Hawaii Five Oh (+1000), with both mares being ultra-competitive in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle farm on June 10.
Meanwhile, previous Everest slot-holders Lost And Running (+1100) and Private Eye (+800) are looking to reclaim their spots in the $20 million feature.
The Shorts is the second leg of the Randwick quaddie on Saturday and is scheduled to get underway at 4pm AEST.
