Race 1

6 Kahress: Had them shot to bits on the home turn at Cromwell until the trail horse unleashed. Peak fitness now and should pick one up this trip.

4 Awapuni: Always respect for a Hope trained maiden trotter. They’re not just there to make up numbers. Talented and a chance on debut.

11 It Wasn’t Me: Has always looked better than being just a maiden trotter and third up today should be ready to rock and roll. Can get a slice of it.

2 Gotta Ticket: Gait issues at Nelson but excellent on the grass at Westport. Repeat of those efforts actually goes pretty close here.

Selections: 6-4-11-2

Race 2

10 Scotlyn Beach Boy: Took a pretty smart one to hold him out at Omakau. Second line draw no worry here and can reel them in late with the right kind of trip.

15 Prospect Park: Compiling a strong record, but yet to crack the maiden. Draw makes it hard today, but he’s certainly good enough if things go his way.

9 Chal Be: Did some work at The Mot last time out and didn’t throw it in. Draw might not end up being the worst so can sneak up on them late.

1 Deja Blue: Much more like it in the recent efforts and gets a good draw to use here. Can make the most of it and be a major player when things get serious.

Selections: 10-15-9-1

Race 3

15 Madam Sass: Potentially the best horse in the race but a bit to learn still. If they catch here in the right mood, she could run ragged here.

7 Foreigner: Given a freshen up after a productive time prior to Christmas. Good manners, so should be on the speed and out of trouble. In the mix.

3 Bright Glow: Good runs on the Coast and unlucky at Reefton. Goes OK here and has to be considered on an each way basis.

5 Sods Law: Has the ability and if able to trot away with them and get onto the speed then not the worst chance here, especially with a nice sit.

Selections: 15-7-3-5

Race 4

7 J R Bromac: Excellent effort on debut to only just have the colours lowered by a very good one. Good field here, but certainly good enough to be a strong player.

1 Myanmar Prince: Strong introduction to racing on the Coast circuit with placings all three days. Good draw and use of a positive drive should give a strong chance.

6 He’s A Flyin: Chased hard behind a good one on the second day at Nelson. Better for the experience and stable usually flies here so needs to be in the mix.

12 Jake: Good effort at The Mot to back up strong fresh up run. Needs to be seriously considered for this assignment on the basis of that effort.

Selections: 7-1-6-12

Race 5

13 Saginaw: A risky prospect at best, but a talented one all the same. On the right day, in the right mood. He’d round this field up for fun. We’re just hoping it’s today.

14 Madiba: Joins the Jones and Hill stable after two strong efforts at Nelson. Tricky draw for a horse who likes to be on the speed but needs ot be seriously considered.

16 Kacie Cullen: Turned the corner a bit at Nelson with two good efforts. Has the speed to sit off them here and then unleash on the late with the right luck.

5 All Nuts N Bolts: Not giving up on the old boy yet – a mile might just not be his go in life. Can rough and tumble it and play a part in this today.

Selections: 13-14-16-5

Race 6

9 Heavyweight Hero: Backed up a strong Green Mile win with an excellent second next up last time out. Class horse of the field and should deliver.

1 Phoebe Onyx: Smart wee trotter who could get onto the speed early, find the back of the right horse and be too good for them late with high speed.

8 Medusa: Back to form with a strong win last time out. This isn’t a whole lot harder so is one you definitely want to have in the mix.

7 Overzealous: Had to chase too hard both days at Nelson. Grass not the best for her, but she’s still good enough to be a big chance here.

Selections: 9-1-8-7

Race 7

3 Emmersyn Lee: Issues last time out behind The Mot failure. Prior runs in good company all excellent. Handy draw and should be right in the middle of it all.

7 Givemewhatineed: Two great runs at Nelson without a whole lot of luck. Should get close to the speed today and be a leading contender.

6 Chloe’s Joy: Got it wrong last time out, but that was a stand. Back to the mobile here and in an even field has to be a good chance.

12 Shezsomethinspecial: Big run on Day Two at Nelson after attacking for the lead a long way out. Can sit off the speed and sprint at them here.

Selections: 3-7-6-12

Race 8

8 Stars Tonight: Had a busy couple of months, but seems to thrive on the racing. Good in the Nelson Cup and kept fresh for this one. Has to be the one to beat.

10 Rocknroll Rod: Found the front in the Nelson Cup and nearly stole it. Might not get there as easily today but Orange in the bike so definitely needs respect.

2 Franco Garrett: Good stand start pacer who will ping onto the speed early here and give them all plenty to think about. Progressive and can win it.

6 One Direction: Excellent win at Ashburton on Christmas Eve and goes well on the grass. Can sit off the speed and swoop into it late with the right luck.

Selections: 8-10-2-6

Race 9

2 Fynn Frost: Quite remarkable runs all three days on the Coast. Talk about tough. Needs to step away, but won’t be afraid of any of these in what is a drop in grade.

13 Vinnie Rulz: Out of feature racing on the Coast too where things didn’t quite go to plan but she still went great anyway. In the mix here for sure.

1 Patronus Star: Made a good start to the racing career and likely to ping away here and get onto the speed early which gives him a good chance.

5 Dana Dawn: Great run at Nelson on Sunday and goes just as well here too. Dangerous if able to get onto speed early and find the back of the right one.

Selections: 2-13-1-5

Race 10

4 Ifyousayso: Bookies caught napping with debut demo job at The Mot. Smart horse, going places too. Should be too good for them here too.

11 Miss Daytona: Out of the Reefton Cup for this, so a bit of drop back. Likes the grass and over the odds for a horse of her ability. Has to be considered.

13 Jazelle: Too far back over the sprint trip on Day Two at Nelson but good winning first day and excellent in three runs on the Coast. Look out for her late.

14 Cheddar Valley: Big motor but still learning. Will get into it at some point and if in contention turning for home, he’s a big chance of success.

Selections: 4-11-13-14

BEST: 10 Scotlyn Beach Boy (Race 2)
