A mammoth day of Group 1 racing was run and won at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, while the All-Star Mile raceday at Flemington saw plenty of good horses go around. With a lot of horses running in their ‘grand finals’ on Saturday, there weren’t too many horses that we want to be on next start, but there is one that caught out eye first-up.
Rosehill Gardens | Track: Heavy 9 | Rail: +2m Entire Course
Race 9: Group 1 The Galaxy Stakes (1100m) | Time: 1:06.15
- Horse to follow: In The Congo (3rd)
The fifth Group 1 of the day at Rosehill Gardens was The Galaxy over 1100m, which saw cult figure Shelby Sixtysix reign supreme. IN THE CONGO led the field in his first run for the autumn under a big weight of 56kg and fought on really gamely to run third, just half a length away. The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained three-year-old looks in for a successful preparation given he is going to have plenty of freshness in his legs compared to some of the horses he is likely to come up against.
When to bet: It’s hard to know where the stable go with the Golden Rose winner, given that he holds a nomination for both the TJ Smith Stakes and Arrowfield Sprint over The Championships. If he lines up in the Arrowfield, he will take some serious beating over 1200m.
