Team Teal back in 2023

Harness Racing New Zealand’s Team Teal campaign has been confirmed for 2023.

Held on both sides of the Tasman, this will be the sixth time the campaign’s been held in this country.

It has been remarkably successful in making people aware of ovarian cancer,  and raising funds towards much needed research.

The campaign was set up by Australian Duncan McPherson after his wife died from ovarian cancer.

All of our female drivers will wear teal coloured pants throughout the campaign. The five New Zealand ambassadors will be successful drivers Sam Ottley, Gemma Thornley, Alicia Harrison, Kirstin Green and Crystal Hackett, with the campaign running from February 1 to March 15. Thornley will be taking part in the campaign for the first time.

Each time a female wins a race wearing teal pants over the six-week period money goes to Team Teal. Drivers are individually sponsored plus there are contributions from HRNZ, clubs and other donors per win.

In the past the campaign has raised upwards of $50,000 to the cause, though in recent years the total has been less because of Covid disruptions.

It’s planned to have collectors on course throughout the campaign as well.
