The Tauranga meeting in NZ on Saturday is very much playing second fiddle to the Trentham meeting. Nonetheless there are eight competitive races scheduled with the highlight being race 7 for the rating 88 horses.
The track is currently rated as soft with rain forecast for Friday, with the meeting set to get underway at 12:45pm NZDT.
Best Bet at Tauranga – Ask Mum
Ask Mum has looked the goods since resuming in December with a fast finishing second at Rotorua and since that effort she has gone back to back in maiden company, with her last win being one of those races that have conditions attached. She is rising a couple of grades for this assignment, but does drop nicely in weight after the 2kg claim from inform apprentice Niranjan Parmar. There is rain forecast for Friday so the track is unlikely to improve from its slow rating as of today and these conditions will suit this mare right down to the ground. There should still be some value to be had about her and the hat-trick of wins beckons.

Next Best at Tauranga – Rose ‘N’ Power
Rose ‘N’ Power is stepping back from contesting the Group 3 Kings Plate a fortnight ago where she was well beaten after being taken on in front. She is taking her time to come back up this term but after four runs under her belt there will be no excuses today. She will probably take a sit in the running behind the speedy Tightlign but with track conditions that favour her more than the others here she should be just too classy for her opposition here.

Best Value at Tauranga – Wordsworth
Wordsworth is fresh up today having last raced in December last year. He has an excellent record fresh up and also revels in wet ground. He is fortunate today to have a 4kg claimer aboard in Hamish McNeill who is anything but a novice with many riding wins over the jumps. He has won on the track which is a big advantage at Tauranga and with a couple of handy horses in the field the price about this fellow will be inflated. He is well worth an each-way ticket on Saturday.
