Elwick Racecourse will host its annual Tasmanian Guineas Day this Friday evening, with the highlight events being the Listed Tasmanian Stakes and Listed Tasmanian Guineas. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, however, with good weather forecast for Thursday and Friday, we expect to see a Good, fair track come race day. The rail will be out in the +7m position for the entire circuit, which may suit on-speed runners early. The first race will jump at 2:17pm AEDT. Here are our free Hobart tips for January 6, 2023.
Tasmanian Guineas – Jaguar Stone
The feature race of the evening will be the Listed Tasmanian Guineas, where a field of nine talented fillies and gelding will do battle over 1600m. Adam Trinder has three runners engaged this year, with two geldings and the lone filly in the race. That lone filly will be our top tip, Jaguar Stone, who was flying home late last start over 1400m on December 14, albeit going down by 4.6 lengths behind her stablemate Bello Beau. With Bello Beau and Russian Roni expected to be the speed influences, we could see these two overdo it slightly and have the race set up for something to fly home from the back. This daughter of Spieth will jump from barrier three and should be able to hold a position off the rail, two or three pairs back off the leaders and if the leaders do go too hard out in front, we could see this girl flash home and run over the top of them late.

Tasmanian Stakes – The Inevitable
The Listed Tasmanian Stakes will feature a small field of five runners with four of them having met last start in the Listed Conquering Stakes over 1400m at Launceston on December 14. In that lead-up race we saw The Inevitable run home a comfortable winner by half-a-length. Given the ease of that victory, we find no reason to be against The Inevitable, as he looks for his fourth win in a row this preparation. After sitting in the one-one last start, this son of Dundeel peeled off the leader’s heels and ran home strong down the inside to pick the leader in the final 100m and win eased down. From barrier two on Friday, David Pires should settle this guy in the one-one position once again. The only thing that could beat this very talented galloper is bad luck, so if Pires can keep him in clear air from the barrier to the home turn, he will be winning again.

Best Bet at Hobart – Flying To Paris
Our best bet tip of the evening will come up in the last race, with Flying To Paris dropping back from the $75,000 3YO Trophy to a $25,000 Class 1 Handicap. After finishing second in a close photo with Jaguar Stone behind Bello Beau last start, this daughter of Alpine Eagle will be suited by the drop back in grade and she should find a similar run in transit from barrier seven. Anthony Darmanin will continue his relationship with this filly after riding her at her last three starts, only missing the placings once. Both Jaguar Stone and this filly beat the rest of the field at their last start by over two lengths, indicating to us if she can replicate her most recent start on Friday, she should be recording her second victory of her career.

Next Best at Hobart – Travelling Gigolo
The only staying event for the evening will be over 2100m and Travelling Gigolo from the Scott Brunton yard looks hard to beat as he holds a very impressive record at the Hobart 2100m, recording four wins and a place from six starts. This son of Globetrotter had a good warm-up run over 1650m last up on December 9 at Devonport, where he sat out the back and worked home nicely without making any impression on the front half of the field. David Pires will jump back aboard on Friday for the sixth time and will be looking to keep his solid record of three wins from those rides. From barrier five, Pires should have this guy midfield and out of trouble, so that when the field hits the home bend this guy can find the outside to let down and run home strong.
