HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers at Tamworth on Thursday. The eight-race card will be run from 1:15pm AEDT on a Good 4 track, where the rail will be in the true position for the entire course.
Tamworth Best Bet – Casino Lord
Cody Morgan was set to have three runners in the opening event, but he scratched what looked to be the leading chance – Anethol – which looks to put this race on a silver platter for Casino Lord. The four-year-old gelding comes off a last-start third behind the aforementioned galloper at Randwick on Boxing Day in a Class 3 Highway over 1100m, where he came from a long way back to get within six-tenths of a length. The son of Casino Prince does drop back to 1000m, but he faces a small field of eight and he can settle closer from barrier three under Jackson Searle. The odds-on quote with online bookmakers is about right.
Next Best at Tamworth – Indicative
Indicative has been a bit of a nightmare for punters this campaign, running second as favourite in all three of his starts, but he can break through in this. The Paul Messara-trained son of Snitzel was beaten 1.8 lengths at Muswellbrook on January 4 behind Maple Gold over 1500m, where they ran a very similar time to the Benchmark 66 on the same day. Mitchell Bell will do the riding aboard this three-year-old for the first time on Thursday, which is a strong booking, while barrier three and the drop back in trip to 1400m should see him very competitive in a pretty weak maiden. This is the final straw for this Arrowfield Stud-owned gelding.
Tamworth Value Bet – Sabie Park
Cody Morgan has a phenomenal record on his home track, and that is no doubt down to the number of runners he has in these meetings. The local trainer has 14 runners across the eight races on Thursday, with two of those in the last race. At the top of the weights is Macleay, just ahead of his stablemate Sabie Park. The four-year-old son of Kermadec has only had four starts, winning ultra-impressively on debut at the Sunshine Coast. He then started as an odds-on favourite in his second run, almost 12 months ago to the day, where he ran seventh. The four-year-old has since raced twice, finishing fourth at the Sunshine Coast before moving to the Hawkes stable and only just missing at Sandown in July. Two solid trials leading into this first-up assignment in his first start for Morgan should have him fit enough to give this race a shake.
