Country racing heads to Tamworth on Sunday afternoon for a competitive eight-race program. The Country Championship Qualifiers continue with the $150,000 race the feature across the meeting. The rail sits in the true position the entire circuit and we should have picture-perfect condition on Sunday with no rain expected in the lead up. The first race is set to get underway at 12:55pm AEDT.
Country Championship Qualifier: Ezekeil
We found it too hard to go past the favourite in the 1400m feature on Sunday as Ezekeil looks the one to beat. His two wins this time in jump off the page and comes here looking for a third straight victory for the Cody Morgan team. The win on a heavy track at the Gold Coast on January 14 couldn’t have been more dominant, going on to score by 3.5 lengths. It could’ve taken a bit our of this son of Divine Prophet, but he’s trialled since that win behind race rival Akasawa and was hitting the line better, despite finishing behind him in the trial at Scone on February 15. His strike rate is super with 15 starts and only missing the frame in five of those performances. He’s drawn to get a lovely run three pairs back and when presented by Ben Looker should be too good for this lot. Akasawa and Running Bear look the next best after him, but Ezkeil should be very hard to chase down.

Best Bet at Tamworth: British Columbia
Valoria doesn’t look too far off breaking her maiden status and we think it could well be on Sunday afternoon. This daughter of Maurice is due some luck and if she finds any in this 1400m maiden, she looks like one of the better bets on the program. She’s third up this time in and should’ve been right in the finish at Newcastle on February 13, picking herself up off the canvas running into third after checking off heels and when finally getting clear finished strong. She’s been crying out for further in trip and a good track to go along. This is her best chance to salute and get a much-deserved win on the board. Donavon Dillon takes the reins and from barrier two should get a nice run in behind what looks a strong tempo throughout. So long as Valoria gets the breaks late, she’ll be finishing best on Sunday.

Next Best at Tamworth: Snizzi
We think Donavon Dillon and Paul Messara can combine on a few occasions on Sunday and Snizzi is no exception. He’s been going outstanding and with only one win on the board, we’re surprised this Snitzel gelding hasn’t been in the winner’s circle again. First-up this preparation he ran into a nice type called Binkou at Newcastle on February 13 and finished well into third by 2.3 lengths. We love the immediate step up to the mile on Sunday after that performance, getting back to the trip where Snizzi broke his maiden status at Scone on September 6. He’s consistent and never missed the frame in his four starts and looks the most progressive horse in this race. Donovan Dillon can sit back off the speed from barrier 10 and when the race goes on turning for home should be right in this Class 1 & Maiden company affair.
