HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets, value bet and quaddie numbers for the Sunshine Coast’s nine-race program on Sunday, January 2. The track is rated a Soft 7, while the rail has been moved out 8m for the entire course. Runners for the first race of the day will face the starter at 12:05pm AEST.
Sunshine Coast’s Best Bet – Amity Gal
In the first leg of the quaddie, local trainer David Vandyke is set to unleash a very promising filly, Amity Gal. The daughter of Shamus Award is a full sister to the 2021 Queensland Oaks winner, Duais, and a half sister to the Group-performed Baccarat Baby, who Vandyke also trained. Amity Gal has had three trials in preparation for her debut, running second behind three-time winner Fierce Warrior on the first occasion, before winning her next two trials by 4.25 lengths and 5.25 lengths respectively. The three-year-old filly should get a terrific run under Ryan Maloney from barrier two, so we expect her to lead and take some real beating. She looks to be a serious racehorse – just like her bigger sisters.
Next Best Bet – Gave Us Up
In the penultimate race, Barry Baldwin and Brad Stewart combine with talented four-year-old gelding, Gave Us Up. The son of Spill The Beans has been in the winner’s circle on two occasions from his nine starts, while he also filled the placings on another four occasions. In his four runs this campaign, Gave Us Up has been placed twice, ran fourth once and disappointed when eighth at Doomben two starts ago, albeit all in a tough race. The gelding hit the line nicely behind Swanston on December 10 last time out, where he flashed past Plutocrat who has since won at metropolitan level. From barrier three, Stewart should be able to box seat and extricate a path off the fence in the straight and go past them. This is easier.
Best Value At Sunshine Coast – Goddess Of Dreams
Stuart Kendrick and Jake Bayliss combine in the opening race with three-year-old filly Goddess Of Dreams. The daughter of Shalaa has had five starts for just the one third on August 1 behind Sacca at this track over 1200m. This time in, the filly bundled the start on the Sunshine Coast Polytrack, but hit the line nicely to run sixth behind Mystic Aroma and Not Another – two subsequent winners – over 1000m. Kendrick then gave her another start on December 19 where she didn’t make an impression, running eighth of 14 at this track over 1000m, but she hit the line nicely again, so she should relish getting out to 1400m for the first time. Bayliss can settle closer from the inside alley provided she jumps well, and she should be able to do the rest. This is a much easier maiden, and the extra trip will be right up her alley.
