Nine races will be run on the synthetic track at the Sunshine Coast on Friday afternoon from 2:47pm AEST onwards, with a number of very competitive events scheduled. HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the meeting, with the top tip coming off a quiet jumpout last Wednesday at this track.
Best Bet at Sunshine Coast – Joy Too All
While all eyes were on Gypsy Goddess in a jumpout last Wednesday, the Queensland Oaks favourite’s stablemate Joy Too All was just as impressive, albeit slightly hidden. The five-year-old mare by All Too Hard has won four of her six career starts, while she was also very narrowly beaten on one other occasion, suggesting that she is all class. The David Vandyke-trained mare is going to get a terrific run from barrier five under Ryan Maloney and she should give this race a shake. Obviously, Morethannumberone is the main danger, but Joy Too All gets 3.5kg off the top weight.

Race 8 – #4 Joy Too All (5)

Next Best at Sunshine Coast – Badgers Nuts
Badgers Nuts has only had two starts, finishing second on debut in New Zealand before running midfield in a 3YO Maiden at Eagle Farm on May 4 over 1400m. The Shaune Ritchie & Colm Murray-trained son of Rageese looked a picture in the mounting yard that day at Eagle Farm, and although he didn’t quite run up to his looks, he did have a tough run in transit and boxed on gamely. He’s been back to the trials since that run, winning comfortably over 1060m on the synthetic track at the Gold Coast on May 19, so despite the drop back to 1100m, it might actually suit the gelding.

Best Value at Sunshine Coast – Grey Defence
We made a strong case for Grey Defence last weekend at Doomben in a tougher race than this, but with the abandonment of that meeting, Les Ross has opted to run his in-form three-year-old in this $50,000 Benchmark 70 Handicap. The son of Instinction will have to carry the top weight, but Angela Jones’ 1.5kg claim means he will be carrying 59.5kg. This sprinter won three-straight races before running a brave third to Prince Of Boom and Sword Of State last time out in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m), so that should be good enough form to see him salute in this race.
Best Value
Race 7 – #1 Grey Defence (9)
