While the Manikato Stakes meeting at Moonee Valley takes top billing this Friday night, HorseBetting has also sussed out some top tips and quaddie numbers for the seven-race program at the Sunshine Coast. The track is rated a Soft 5, the rail is out 8m for the entire course, and the opening race of the evening is scheduled to jump at 5:50pm AEST.
Best Bet at Sunshine Coast: Gauntlet
James Orman partnered Gauntlet to victory at Ipswich last time out, leading all of the way to win by nearly two lengths over 1200m. The Chris Anderson galloper had trialled well prior to his first-up run, where he ran second to Writtle who has since been beaten by a narrow margin, franking that form line. This son of Lonhro faces a tougher ask on Friday night, going from a maiden straight into a Class 2 and rising 1kg to carry the 58kg, but he looks to have ability. Drawn out in barrier nine, Orman will take this five-year-old forward which should see him very hard to catch again.
Next Best at Sunshine Coast: Jakkalberry Finn
David Vandyke’s five-year-old gelding, Jakkalberry Finn, returns to the races after a few months off the scene since a good win here at the Sunshine Coast in June. The son of Jakkalberry has had three starts in his career to date, running second on debut, third at start two and finally breaking his maiden status at start three, with both defeats being by small margins. He has had two trials in preparation for his first-up run which should have him forward enough to be able to win over 1600m. Drawn wide in barrier 14, Ryan Maloney will take the gelding towards the rear of the field and look to be storming home over the top of his rivals late. He is a very nice horse going forward.
Best Value at Sunshine Coast: I’m Jacko
In the third race of the evening, Glen Peterson’s little grey 10-year-old is set to line up in his 47th career start in search of win seven. The son of Za-Im led all the way to win at Gatton five starts back and then ran second at Kilcoy before once again leading all the way to win, this time at Rockhampton. The front-running old-timer has finished runner-up in his two runs since at Goondiwindi and Gladstone. The well-travelled grey has drawn well in barrier five, which will allow Alex Patis to go forward and look to make every post a winner. The form around him is not the strongest you will see, but in an average Benchmark 60 over 1000m, he could pinch it.
