Time is running out for those those wanting to qualify for the lucrative Racing Rewards Showcase at Addington.
Sunday’s Cheviot Harness Racing Club meeting will be the last chance for horses to earn enough points to force their way into the series, at Addington the following weekend, on Easter Saturday.
The highly popular series, which was last year known as the RATTO Showcase, will feature three pacing and two trotting races over 2600m, each worth $27,000. There will be 16 trotters and 14 pacers in their respective races.
To qualify horses must be R35 – 60 and 4YO and older, as of January 1, 2023 and have had at least three starts between January 1 – April 2.
At the moment Ruby’s A Delight is the top pacer with 66.36 points, ahead of Kingsdown Atom (50.88) and the in-form Classie Linc who has won three of her last five starts.
Leading the trotting division is Buffy Northstains, who has won two of her last three. She has 60.58 points, with Rachmaninov (46.62) and Vertigo (45.00) rounding out the top three.
Any horse accepted into a race(s) at Timaru 4 April, Waikato-BOP Harness 6 April, or Wyndham HRC 06 April will lose its Selection Preference for its nominated Racing Rewards Showcase race, if there are more than full fields of acceptors for that respective division.
After 5.00pm Monday 03 April an order of entry/approximate race splits will be published on hrnz.co.nz.
