Healesville is set to host a straight track war this afternoon with the running of the Rodney Thorneycroft Memorial Final.
Four heats were conducted last week, with the brilliant Blackpool Flash (19.29sec) clocking the fastest win, followed by Rocket Boy (19.32sec), Keiki (19.41sec) and Cawbourne Toe (19.59sec).
The Watchdog expects prolific winners Blackpool Flash (19 from 37 – 51%) and Rocket Boy (20 from 41 – 49%) to figure prominently, but considering the eight finalists have amassed 127 wins between there are several other genuine chances including Rocket Boy’s classy litter brother Man Absconded.

MUST-WATCH RACE – Rodney Thorneycroft Memorial Final
BLACKPOOL FLASH MAN ABSCONDED KEIKI ROCKET BOY
Healesville Race 6 350m 12:34pm

The Watchdog says : Brilliant Final and it should be a great battle throughout. ROCKET BOY (8) was impressive winning his heat last week and he should be much better for the run as he was having his first start at the track. He has a tremendous record from this draw and has the capability of running track records at any track up to 400m. He will have to contend firstly with the ultra-consistent and classy BLACKPOOL FLASH (2), who was the fastest heat winner in 19.29sec last week. BLACKPOOL FLASH, who has an amazing 51% winning strike rate, is one of the best beginners in the game and is expected to be on the speed throughout. KEIKI (7) is the interesting runner. She carved out the quickest first section last week (6.51sec) and she will head to the inside part of the track soon after box rise, so she could make the race for the ‘pink’. ZACHARY (4) and MAN ABSCONDED (6) are also two very gifted chasers and if either gets a clear crack at them mid-race they could cause a minor upset. It would no surprise if the winner runs sub 19 seconds today.
Selections: 8 – 2 – 7 – 6

TAB fixed odds: $2.30 Win

The Watchdog says : He is one of the best named greyhounds in the business and he looks poised to figure prominently today. He was a brilliant heat winner when having his first start at the track and I think he can find another length or two on that run. With KEIKI (7) expected to drift to the middle of the track, he will get every chance to balance up early and score.

The Watchdog says : Three leg multi. ROCKET BOY (8) looks a genuine lock for a top three finish from the wide draw. SHORT FINE LEG (6) was impressive here last time and although he meets a well-bred first starter, a top two finish looks likely. SHOWTIME BOOMER (8) is dropping in class, loves a wide draw, and should prove too strong in the closing stages. Here’s hoping this multi is a stress free ride. Multi price: $2.79
$3 Win – BLAZER EDITION
Sandown Park Race 5 Box 1 515m 3:27pm
TAB fixed odds: $1.95 Win
Form https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/643264463/race/5
The Watchdog says : She has continued to improve with each run and last time out she won with genuine authority over 460m at Warragul. The slight rise in distance should not be an issue and with the ability to run around the 29.70sec mark, they will have their work cut out trying to reel her in.
$2 Place – GREGARIOUS
Sandown Park Race 7 Box 1 515m 4:07pm
TAB fixed odds: $1.95 Place
Form https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/643264463/race/7
The Watchdog says : He runs into a couple of handy ones drawn in boxes two and three, but I expect GREGARIOUS (1) to be able to hold the lead through the first corner. They might get to him in the middle stages, however outside of the two favourites, there is little depth, and he should be able to hold on to a top three spot.
