It was 23 months ago to the day since Spy Da Moment last saluted the judge.
Last night at Addington the 10-year-old Monarchy gelding recorded his sixth win from 54 starts. He has now amassed over $80,000 in stakes for connections.
“He’s racing really well. He deserved that win,” says Leeston trainer-driver Katie Cox.
“When we got around to parked he was travelling quite good. I thought there might be something to slingshot us at the end – as he can pull up and wait for them a little bit sometimes.”
It was due reward for Cox after the gelding has had his setbacks in previous years which has held him back.
“He’s just had issues with quarter cracks and things like that about a year and a half ago. He’s never had the best feet. But he’s back on track again now.”
Spy Da Moment continues Cox’s recent successes which include achieving 100 winners as a driver, and securing a Group 1 victory earlier in the season with Its Tough in the Welcome Stakes.
And there is still more to come for Cox before the year is out, with a nice young team producing some promising foundation work alongside the already proven Its Tough.
“It’s Tough is out spelling, and is due back in at the start of August. If he comes back up alright we will probably target the Aces race in December.
“We qualified one the other week called Seacracka (3 year old Downbytheseaside filly), she’s nice, and another one called Revolution (2 year old Courage Under Fire gelding) who we qualified earlier in the year, I quite like him.”
In other highlights from Addington last night, there were doubles achieved for drivers John Dunn and Craig Thornley, and a treble for driver Carter Dalgety and trainers Cran & Chrissie Dalgety.
