A $5000 bonus will be on offer in the deep south next month.
The money will go to any horse that can win on all three race days – at the Gore Harness Racing Club meeting at Gore on February 19 and at the Wyndham Harness Racing Club’s two day meeting at Cromwell on February 24 and 26.
In the event of more than one horse winning three races the prize will be shared. The $5000 incentive is a joint initiative agreed to by the Gore and Wyndham clubs.
“We have adjusted distances so that most races will be over either 1750 or 1800 metre mobiles for the pacers and either 1900 or 2000 metre stands for the trotters,” says Gore HRC president Ross Cleland, “the only exception will be the cup races.”
The Gore Town and Country Summer Cup, for instance, will be run over 2750m while the feature races, both trotting and pacing, at Cromwell are likely to be over 2600 metres.
Penalty free junior driver races will also be held on each day, at both Gore and Cromwell, and there will be space available for anyone at either the Cromwell or Omakau racecourses for the week.
