The Silver Slipper Stakes is a Group 2 race for two-year-olds, run over 1100m at Rosehill.
A key lead-up to the Golden Slipper, the Silver Slipper Stakes offers $300,000 in prizemoney in 2025.
First held in 1963, the Silver Slipper Stakes shifted from spring to autumn in 1998 and has been contested over various distances before settling at 1100m.
Seven horses have completed the Silver Slipper–Golden Slipper double, including Pierro (2012), Mossfun (2014), and Farnan (2020).
Amelia’s Dream holds the 1100m race record (1:02.9), though injury ended her career before the Golden Slipper.
Darren Beadman remains the most successful Silver Slipper jockey with five wins. Gai Waterhouse, now with Adrian Bott, claimed her seventh Silver Slipper in 2024 with Straight Charge.
Other notable Silver Slipper Stakes winners include Sunlight, She Will Reign, Victory Vein, Astern, and Cylinder.
In 2019, Time To Reign mirrored his sister She Will Reign’s success by winning the Silver Slipper.

The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott freight train continued to roll along, as Straight Charge ($2.40) took total control to secure victory in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill. It was a front-running masterclass by the son of Written By, with Tim Clark electing to cross to the lead throughout the 1100m contest from barrier seven, ensuring stablemate and second-favourite Espionage ($2.80) would be forced to take the leaders back. The two-year-old colt led them up at a strong tempo, with some of the leading contenders – including Erno’s Cube ($6.50), Celerity ($10.00) and Embassy ($9.00) all left chasing a long way out.

Brenton Avdulla and James Cummings combined with Cylinder to take out the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes defeating two Golden Slipper fancies Kings Gambit and Platinum Jubilee. With King’s Gambit dominating the market as a $2.50 favourite with online betting sites, Cylinder was backed in from $6 to $4.40 before the jump in the two-year-old Group 2 event, with the latter showing that he had more improvement to come, with the Golden Slipper in four weeks time. Platinum Jubilee led the field up to the home corner, but as soon as the field entered the final 300m there was only one runner that you wanted your money on, and that was the winner. The Exceed And Excel colt lengthened nicely to run past Platinum Jubilee and then pull away for a nice half-length victory and put himself into the Golden Slipper conversation.

Best Of Bordeaux proved he’s the real deal, showcasing brilliant speed to win the Group 2 $250,000 Silver Slipper (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens. The Queensland colt, who was coming off his his debut win in the Canonbury Stakes, led early and held off the challengers to score by a half-length. Magic impressed on debut, finishing second, while Cythera was the top filly in third.
