Silver Shadow Stakes draws classy field of 15 fillies

Lazzago
Lazzago is one of the fancies for the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick this weekend.

The Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) will be run and won this Saturday at Randwick, with some classy three-year-old fillies looking to make an impression early in the spring.

The Chris Waller-trained Lazzago heads the field with the number one saddlecloth after a luckless preparation, culminating in a heavily compromised run in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).

Platinum Jubilee is the only other galloper coming through that form-line and is trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, who seem to have produced a strong cohort for the race.

The stable’s other runners include Autumn Ballet, who became the first horse to take out the Group 3 Black Opal (1200m) in her first career start, and Taormina, who will be searching for a third win on the trot.

A multitude of other gallopers return from last-start wins, with the Annabel Neasham-trained Kristilli sure to have plenty of admirers after taking out the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m), while the undefeated Godolphin galloper Zardozi is trying to maintain his perfect record under jockey Chad Schofield.

Estriella, Inhibitions and Summer Loving make up some of the key chances that have already had a run this preparation.

The Silver Shadow Stakes is the penultimate race on the program at Randwick and is set to get underway at 4:20pm AEST.
