Golden Slipper winner Shinzo has opened a $6.00 favourite for the Group 1 Golden Rose set to be run at Rosehill Gardens on September 23.
No horse has ever completed the Golden Slipper-Golden Rose double in the same year, but the Chris Waller-trained colt will get his chance to rewrite history ahead of a potential tilt at The Everest three weeks later.
Shinzo, a two-year-old colt by Snitzel out of Samaready has had four race starts for a win and two minor placings, but has already ammassed $2,973,750 in prize money ahead of his three-year-old campaign.
Prior to his win in the Slipper, Shinzo needed to win the Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes a week prior to the Group 1 event to gain ballot-exemption having not earned enough prize money to get into the race via the Golden Slipper Order of Entry.
Owned by Coolmore, it is unclear three months out from the Golden Rose as to whether Ryan Moore will make the trip back to Australia to reunite with Shinzo or whether James McDonald, who partnered him to victory in the Pago Pago Stakes will hop on board.
The only other runner at a single figure quote with online bookmakers is Militarize, the stablemate to Shinzo who has opened a $9 chance for the 1400m event.
Militarize would go on to claim the remaining two legs of the two-year-old triple crown in Sydney, following an unlucky run in the Golden Slipper.
He claimed the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at his first go over 1400m, before going on to claim the Group 1 Champagne Stakes at 1600m as a short-priced favourite.
Joao Moreira partnered the Dundeel colt to both of his Group 1 victories and is hopeful of continuing his partnership with Waller’s colt heading into his three-year-old campaign.
Goldophin’s Cylinder ($11) holds the third line of betting, whilst the likes of Celestial Legend, Commemorative, Don Corleone, Kings Gambit and Red Resistance are all at a $15 quote.
