The 2020 Geelong Gold Cup is shaping up to be one of the best greyhound races this year with what many have dubbed the ‘Awesome Foursome’ – Catch The Thief, Tiggerlong Tonk, Simon Told Helen and Shima Shine.
Shima Shine is one of five locally trained greyhounds in the Cup and trainer Andrea Dailly believes it’s about time Shima Shine claimed an all elusive group race.
TAB are finding it hard to separate Shima Shine (box two) and Simon Told Helen (box seven) opening the pair up at $3.

“It is an extremely hard race but being in box two is a great advantage for Shima Shine,” trainer Andrea Dailly said.
Dailly also has Gladioli Bale drawn in box one as a $31 chance.
“It is a very hard race for her, but she does enjoy being drawn on the inside of the track.”
Shima Shine is fresh off his second Million Dollar Chase campaign at Wentworth Park in Sydney, where he was unable to better his second placing in the 2019 edition, missing out on a run in the final completely.
“He has been on an arduous campaign backwards and forwards to Sydney recently so I think he will benefit from being a fair bit closer to home,” owner David Gleeson said.
Shima Shine is a winner of 23 races from 37 starts, amassing more than $218,000 in prize money. He has had five group race appearances during this time but has been unable crack a group race win.
Will Friday night’s Group 2 Geelong Gold Cup, the same group race his mother – Shima Song – won in 2016, be the race to break that drought? Tune into Greyhound Racing Victoria’s Facebook Live coverage from 8.30pm to find out.
