Hong Kong racing returns to Sha Tin on Sunday for the track’s first stakes race of the season: the Group 3 Celebration Cup (1400m). It’s supported by a quality 10-race program as the rail moves into the C position for the meeting. The forecast suggests a very minor chance of rain, but regardless of any downpour, we expect the surface to remain in the Good range. The opening event is set to kick things off at 1pm HKT (3pm AEST).
Celebration Cup Tip: Beauty Joy
In a strong six-horse field, we’ve landed with Beauty Joy as he resumes with Hugh Bowman back in the saddle. The Tony Cruz-trained gelding hasn’t won since June of 2022, but this race sets up nicely for him. Barrier three should give Bowman a chance to sit in the top four turning for home, and based on how he finished last season, Beauty Joy doesn’t seem far away from recapturing his best.

Best Bet at Sha Tin: Green N White
Green N White ended the previous Hong Kong racing season in stylish fashion, going on to score at this course and distance by two lengths. It was the first time Zac Purton had taken the reins on the gelding by Smart Missile, producing a perfect steer from an awkward draw (10). Trainer Ricky Yiu has kept the four-year-old ticking over nicely with a soft barrier trial on the Conghua circuit heading into Sunday. He needs to carry the top weight this time, but with Purton electing to stick, Green N White must be considered the one to beat.

Next Best at Sha Tin: Taj Dragon
Taj Dragon is set to resume after a 13-week spell and will be searching for back-to-back wins. He got the job done on June 25 after finding the one-one in transit under Zac Purton and was never in any real danger on that occasion, scoring a half-length victory. He’s had three barrier trials in the off-season to keep him fit and firing for Pierre Ng, and he has a perfect draw to replicate his last-start performance.
