Hong Kong racing heads back to Sha Tin on Sunday afternoon for another strong 10-race program. We’re racing on a Good to Firm surface as the rail moves out to the C+3 course for the meeting, which means we’ll be looking for gallopers settling more towards the speed. It’s another tricky card at Sha Tin, so let’s dive straight into the form.
Best Bet: Beauty Eternal
This guy might be special. Beauty Eternal was sensational on return at Sha Tin on January 21 over the 1200m. This son of Starspangledbanner was 10 weeks between runs and the John Size-trained gelding seemed like he hadn’t missed a beat. They drew barrier 12 of 13 on that occasion and jockey Zac Purton wasn’t bothered to sit three-wide without cover the entire because of the motor he had underneath him. Beauty Eternal round up his opposition with relative ease and was hard held the final 50m by Purton to score in style by a length back to second. It was a better win than even the margin suggested and now as he steps up to 1400m, it shouldn’t be causing any issues for this progressive type. The only minor concern on Sunday is barrier one, but provided Purton can get the breaks and get off the inside running rail turning for home, this one should be all over. He looks much superior to Class 3 company and we think by the end of this preparation we’ll be talking about him in much higher esteem.

Next Best: Circuit Stellar
Circuit Stellar gets the perfect set up on Sunday afternoon dropping back into Class 2 company, after a nice hit out in Class 1 behind Mr Ascendency in the Chinese New Year Cup. He took a sit in behind the leader, Healthy Happy and it was his to his downfall in that race, as the leader fell into his lap with 300m to go, before checking off his heels to finish off well enough. He’s well placed now by Tony Cruz in this small Class 2 field and the booking of Zac Purton looks a key one. We’d be shocked if he hands up the lead this time, with the only other tempo drawn his outside with Ka Ying Master. Purton won’t let him cross his mount and should be leading this 1400m contest throughout and pinch a few cheap sectionals mid-race. If they let him dictate terms, Circuit Stellar should get every conceivable chance to make every post a winner.

Next Best Again: Laser Victory
Jamie Richards has started his Hong Kong training campaign in impressive fashion. It can take some time to find your feet in a new climate, but his gallopers have been performing very well with 14 winners this season and Laser Victory looks like a horse that can add to the count. He’s a first-starter by Brazen Beau and has trialled the house down as of late — particularly his latest trial at Happy Valley on January 28. He pinged the lids and sat in behind the speed and when asked for a very minor effort proceeded to bolt clear, before some hard ridden types jagged him out of winning the trial. We love what we’ve seen from Laser Victory at the trials and now if he can replicate that on Sunday, he looks hard to beat. Zac Purton takes the reins and will need to overcome the tricky draw; however we think he can be winning this on debut so long as he gets some cover throughout the 1200m.

Best Value: Let’s Do It
Let’s Do It has been a frustrating horse for punters; however, we think he can finally get a win on the board on Sunday afternoon. He come’s from the form-line behind the likely favourite Fast Buck and we believe he can turn the tables on his key rival here. He gets a 2kg swing in the weights and finally draws a barrier this preparation after drawing barriers seven, eight, 10, 12 and 12 his last five starts. He’s had plenty of excuses, but there shouldn’t be any on Sunday from the soft draw. He can jump and even lead if he want to and we think that’s the initiative Harry Bentley should take with this Dane Shadow gelding. He’s overdue to break through and he should finally get his best chance here.
