We’re back racing on the turf on Sunday afternoon at Sha Tin with a strong 10-race program set for decision. The tricky aspect of this Hong Kong racing meeting comes with the chance of rain and a Soft track on Sunday. The rail is in the A+3 position the entire circuit and the first race is set to get underway at 12:45pm HKT (2:45pm AEST).
Best Bet: Chiu Chow Spirit
Chiu Chow Spirit gets the nod in race eight after producing two solid performances for new trainer Benno Yung. First-up he ran into Beauty Eternal over this course and distance, before placing runner-up behind Red Lion on March 11. Both runs had plenty of merit and saw Chiu Chow Spirit thundering down the middle of the course, closing off nicely but running into some short-priced favourites. The only knock we have is perhaps this Zoustar colt is searching for the mile now; however, with Zac Purton electing to take the reins, it’s a big tick. He’ll be getting back again from barrier nine, but this guy looks ready to win. If his start to the preparation is anything to go by, this three-year-old should only improve.

Next Best: California Ten
California Ten has been a consistent type without winning this preparation; however, we think that can all change on Sunday afternoon. This son of Rock Of Gibraltar ran into second behind Beauty Eternal on February 26 and was asked to do a lot from the back of the field. He obliged, though, and powered to the line, finishing two lengths off the eventual winner. You take Beauty Eternal out of the equation this time, and with even more genuine speed engaged, we feel California Ten can go one better. Zac Purton has placed in the past on this six-year-old gelding, who – with some luck turning for home – can find career win number five.

Next Best Again: Dream Pursuer
Dream Pursuer is a galloper that’s caught our eye over his three starts this preparation and looks to be finding a manageable task dropping into Class 4. It’s his first time dropping into this grade and stepping up to the 1400m, coming out of a form-line we believe will stack up nicely moving forward. He ran fourth in behind Golden Express on March 11, and although he was no match for the winner, he was genuine going to the line. 1400m looks ideal, and despite the sticky gate, we’re happy to lean his way in a competitive field.

Best Value: Flamingo Trillion
This Frankie Lor-trained gelding was an eye-catcher on debut when forced back to near last from barrier nine on March 19. He proceeded to find the line well after checking off heels turning for home, and now he steps out again at the same track and trip. This time he has a more favourable draw and should be able to find an ideal spot just in behind the speed. He’s got some stiff competition with the likes of Easy Snip and Fighting Star, not to mention a couple of unknown first-starters to possibly jump out of the ground. All that being said, we’re keen on what we’ve seen from Flamingo Trillion and you should be getting a nice price with online bookmakers.
